This vintage brooch was a design from the studio of William Spratling of Taxco. William Spratling was the first to produce silver jewelry for the tourist trade in Taxco, Mexico. Spratling designs have been featured in numerous museum publications and exhibitions. This design was originally created during the first design period of William Spratling which was from 1931-1946. The brooch is not a signed Spratling piece but was most likely created by a silversmith who was in his employment and is vintage created prior to 1948. Hands are frequently featured in jewelry from Mexico and symbolize friendship.
