The milagros necklace from Oaxaca, Mexico is symbolic of prayer requests. The Milagros charms are a physical representation of prayer requests which are typically left on a saint in the church. The practice of Milagros representing prayer request originated in the Mediterranean basin and moved to the new world with the Spaniards. This necklace is unusual in that the Milagros are composed of sterling silver. Currently, most Milagros are composed of a base metal dipped in silver. All the Milagros are handcrafted and represent many hours of labor.
