Early 1930’s Fine .980 Silver Taxco Pre-Columbian Motif Necklace, Bracelet & Earrings

Early 1930's Fine .980 Silver Taxco Pre-Columbian Motif Necklace, Bracelet & Earrings

This fabulous pre-Columbian motif necklace, bracelet & earrings was influenced by the artistic heritage of Mexico. William Spratling was very influential in introducing the use of pre-Columbian design in his silver jewelry in the 1930’s when the tourist trade was just begining in Mexico. Prior to the arrival of Fred Davis & William Spratling, both from the U.S.A., jewelry design was influenced by the colonial heritage of Mexico and was usually gold filigree. The use of silver and pre-Columbian design was revolutionary at the time. The patina that time has bestowed on this jewelry has highlighted the design and it is very striking.
