These earrings come from the town of Yalalag in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. This design dates from colonial times when the Spanish ruled Mexico. The symbolism of the Yalalag cross refers to the crucifixion with the large cross representing Jesus and the three smaller crosses for the three men sentenced to death on the mountain with Jesus.
