The fish design harkens back to Aztec and Maya times with historical records listing a jointed fish paid in tribute to Cortez by Montezuma of ingenious design. This bracelet is a dramatic piece by Manuel Porcayo of Taxco, Mexico. The bracelet was inspired by the iconic painting of Pablo Picasso entitled “Guernica”. “Guernica” is rare in that it is executed in black, white and shades of gray. This painting was created by Picasso during the Spanish civil war and was not exhibited in Spain until Franco’s death. “Guernica” was copied in a textile hanging which presently is displayed in the United Nations headquarters.
