Matilde Poulat & Ricardo Salas - Matl Necklace, Bracelet & Earrings
Adornments Unlimited now offers authentic jewelry from the Matl Taller or Studio. The Matl collection includes necklaces, bracelets and earrings. The original artisans from Ricardo Salas carry on the Matl tradition with high quality and attention to detail under the direction of the daughter of Ricardo Salsas. Ricardo Salas passed away in September of 2005.  The Matl Taller was established by Matilde Poulat in 1935. Matilde Poulat and Diego Rivera were friends and contemporaries. Both taught art classes at the prestigeous Academy of San Carlos in Mexico City. Ricardo Salas attended the Academy of San Carlos as well. He was the nephew of Matilde Poulat and worked with Matilde Poulat for many years prior to her death in 1960 and afterwards continued jewelry production and design in theMatl tradition.
Current exhibitions of Matl jewelry include the Folkloric Art Museum in Mexico City and the cultural pavillion for Mexico during the Olympics in Greece. The MatlTaller also provided some of the jewelry for the movie “Frida” starring Salma Hayek.
